Join the Dance
C AM
The lights went low and a mirrored ball cast
F C
stars upon the wall
C AM F
A wise old man with grizzled cheeks issued out
C
a call
A E D
He leaned into the microphone, and with a A
velvet voice
A E D
Gave this invitation, not once, not twice but
A
thrice
G7
He said…
CHORUS
C D7
The dance floor now is open
G G7
So get up off your seats
C D7
The dance floor now is open
G G7
It’s time to move your feet
C AM
Closing time sneaks up on you
F C
This might be your last chance
G C
The dance floor now is open
D7 G
So come and join the dance.

C AM F
Some were on that dance floor before his words
C
were out
C AM F
Waiting for this moment, they welcomed it with
C
Shouts
A E D
Lost in their elation, indeed they all were
A
thrilled
A E D
But sadly that old dance floor was still just one-
A
half filled.
G D7 C
That won’t do, thought the man behind the
G
microphone
G D7 C
If they don’t want to join in, they should have
G
just stayed home
C AM
But he knew what they were missing so he
F C
made another call
C AM F
To those seated at tables and those holding up
C
the wall
G7
He said…

CHORUS
C D7
The dance floor now is open
G G7
So get up off your seats
C D7
The dance floor now is open
G G7
It’s time to move your feet
C AM
Closing time sneaks up on you
F C
This might be your last chance
G C
The dance floor now is open
D7 G
So come and join the dance.

C AM F
A few of them looked at their feet and wrestled
C
with their doubt
C AM F
But it looked fun on the dance floor so soon
C
they shuffled out
A E D A
Others grabbed a partner too shy to go alone
A E D
Each felt the exultation found in that festive
A
zone
G D7 C
The man behind the microphone flashed a
G
crooked smile
G D7 C
Rubbed his chin, thought to himself, hmm this
G
could take awhile
C AM F
Too many still were seated, there was room
C
for more
C AM F
With words of encouragement, he made his
C
plea once more
G7
He said…
CHORUS
C AM F
Some seated at the tables simply tapped their
C
toes
C AM F C
But out onto that dance floor they refused to go
A E D
It’s okay for them, they thought, it’s really
A
not for me
A E D
I’m content to stay right here with present
A
company
G D7 C
Others scoffed and laughed at those dancing on
G
the floor
G D7 C
Called them fools and followers, their presence
G
they abhorred
C AM F
The man behind the microphone he could read
C
their minds
C AM F
He shook his head, took a deep breath, and said
C
it one more time
G7
He said…
CHORUS
C D7
The dance floor now is open
G G7
So get up off your seats
C D7
The dance floor now is open
G G7
It’s time to move your feet
C AM
Closing time sneaks up on you
F C
This might be your last chance
G C
The dance floor now is open
D7 G
So come and join the dance.
